We are happy to announce our Project for 2010

Loving House Project has decided to help build a kitchen and food storage room for the Suan Luang Ethnic High School/Orphanage in Northern Laos.

The Suan Luang Ethnic High School/Orphanage is being assisted by two Australian ladies who have done an amazing work to help the poor Lao children. LHP is proud to work with Ruth Borthwick, who currently lives in Laos, and Christine Seabrook, who lives in Hong Kong but is a frequent visitor to the Luang Prabang region. Together they run the Lao-Kids charity (www.lao-kids.org).

Laos is one of the poorest nations in the planet! The Suan Luang High School/Orphanage cares for 526 children, mainly from the Kamu and Hmong ethnic groups.

The eating area is in very poor conditions. At the moment, the only covered areas cannot provide shelter to everyone. The support poles of the eating areas are wooden and are being eaten by borers. The kitchen is an open space at the end of the eating hall, sheltered by a piece of lean-to corrugated iron. We want to build the foundation with concrete posts and use new corrugated iron for the eating area, plus build a basic enclosed kitchen area.

LHP Director Joe Hursey plans to go to Laos to supervise the construction of the kitchen and food storage area and to see if we can help in any other way. Our goal is to raise $4,000 USD.

We count on your continuous support to provide a clean, safe place for these children to receive their daily bread. “Click here” for more information about the Suan Luang Ethnic High School and Orphanage, or visit www.lao-kids.org

Mission accomplished… big time!

Thanks to the fabulous mobilization and terrific support of Porter County residents, the Global Missions charity organization, located in Topeka - Kansas, received on 01/23/10 over 3.5 tons, 196 boxes of clothes, shoes, bedding sets, blankets, towels, medical supplies, diapers and baby formula! We received all sorts of goods, with people driving from Merrillville, Chicago and even St. Joseph, MI to drop off their contributions.
Rev. Manning will be back from Haiti on Wednesday, in time to prepare the container that will deliver the donations to Haiti in the next couple of days.
We know this is only a drop in a bucket, considering the immense need, but we should all be proud to have done what we could to assist Haitians in this moment of distress.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to everybody that got involved in any way, either dropping off bags of donations or spreading the word; to little Trinity Cibak and Mr. Cammarata from Brummit School for their initiative to help; to Trailer Transit Inc. for providing the funds for renting a Uhaul truck for the delivery and especially to Graphic 22 for the tremendous support in the process of sorting/packing the 6,800 lbs of donations received.

Last week’s efforts just proved that the possibilities are unimaginable when we work together for a good cause. Thank you for your continuous support!

LHP is pleased to inform that, in 2009, we were able to build 7 Loving Houses and give them to deserving families in Vietnam. Many people consider 13 an unlucky number, not us.  In less than two years, LHP has helped 13 families, who now live in a comfortable and safe home, and supported the 13 orphans from the Hoa Hung Orphanage. With the help of many friends and three amazing Fund Raising events in 2009, we were able to do a lot of good.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all of those who believed in our work and supported us in any way. We wish you a blessed 2010! May we continue to work together, transforming people’s lives.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

12/08/09 - Today is a special day for LHP! Our dear friends David Cao and Kim Nguyen, two young leaders of the Vietnamese Community in Chicago, are in My Tho - Tien Giang Province - to visit the three Loving Houses funded by IVSU with their Beauty Pageant in October/09. Kim and David have introduced LHP to the Illinois Vietnamese Student Union and to the Vietnamese Community and helped Loving House Project tremendously in 2009.

Loving House Project would like to thank Kim and David for their trust and support and wish them luck and happiness on their future!

Loving House project has begun the 2009 building project. The support of our many friends has made it possible for the construction of six Loving Houses.
LHP Director Joseph Hursey arrived in Vietnam on November 17th, 2009 and will stay until December 15th. LHP Representatives also stayed in My Tho during this time. We were able to visit the construction sites, spend some time with the children of the Hoa Hung Orphanage and hire a new English teacher for our English program.

Loving Houses No. 9 and 10 were already given to the happy families of Mrs. Hai and Mrs. Nang. To view pictures of each Loving House, click on “Loving Houses” on the main menu and select the name of the family you wish to see on the drop down menu.

Thanks again to all of you who helped LHP make this all happen. Together, we’ve touched the lives of many people in Vietnam! We wish you Happy Holidays and a blessed New Year!

On October 24th, the Illinois Vietnamese Student Union in Chicago presented the 2009 NSDD Beauty Pageant! Seventeen beautiful contestants participated in this year’s event. One of the contests was to elect Miss Philanthropy, an award given to the contestant who raised the most funds for a charity organization. Loving House Project was honored to be the beneficiary of this year’s fund raising effort. Together, they raised enough funds to build 3 Loving Houses!

LHP is very grateful to our friends Kim Nguyen, Chi Nguyen (President of IVSU), Jennifer Thu Thao Tran and all the IVSU staff, for their trust in our project. Special thanks to each one of the graceful contestants for their hard work and support to our cause.

Congratulations to Cindy Nguyen, who was crowned Miss Philanthropy 2009!

We are pleased to inform that our program was accepted by the People’s Comittee of Vietnam. LHP will now be able to keep in touch with the children on a daily basis, send birthday cards, have a local representative in My Tho and she will teach English for the kids. We were also allowed to bring volunteers to teach the children.

This is a huge accomplishment and LHP is aware of the responsability that comes with it. From today on, LHP will be present in the children’s lives and will help care for their studies, medical needs and nutrition.

There is a lot of work to do but we couldn’t be any happier!
