Projects:

With the help of some wonderful people, LHP assisted an Orphanage in Son La, Vietnam, take care of their 70 kids during this winter. Son La is in the mountains, in a very cold region near the border with China and Laos, and these kids live in a building that is not heated. These are ethnic minority hill tribe children.

For only $30 per child, we were able to give a present with: a winter jacket, a new outfit (trousers and shirts to go to school) and three notebooks. They also received a new set of sheets and, for the Orphanage, we gave 10 mattresses that they were short.

We sent a one time donation to our friends from “Humanitarian Services for Children in Vietnam” (www.hscv.org ), a Minnesota based 501 (C) (3) Charity, currently working in Vietnam; on January 16th, 2009, just in time for the Tet celebrations. According to Vietnamese traditions, every kid should have something new to wear on the Tet holiday.

January 16, 2009 - Up to the last minute we were surprised with the support of some wonderful people. Thanks to all of you, LHP was able to raise $1,854.00 USD in only three weeks. A check for $2,000.00 USD was mailed today from LHP to our friends at HSCV. The gifts are already being purchased in Vietnam. Soon we will update our website with pictures of the distribution of gifts.

Thank you for your kindness and for all the support! Now check out what YOU did with your generous donation!

Below is a report sent by one of the HSCV volunteers, Ms. Hong, who coordinated this project:

“It was a nice trip and I had a chance to spend wonderful time with the kids in the Son La orphanage. I arrived at the province in the afternoon and all the kids were sitting in the cafeteria to welcome us. I spoke with the kids and introduce them to HSCV and our donors from Loving House Project. I informed about the gifts we brought to them this Tet occasion. All of the kids shouted and clapped a lot with happiness and smiles in their faces when they heard about receiving their Tet gifts. We then took all the children outside to give out gifts, take photos. Each child received a winter jacket, a new outfit (trousers and shirts for school), and 3 notebooks.
They also received 10 mattresses that they were short of, and 70 sheets. The orphanage took the children to the clothes shop to try on all of the clothing before we arrived. They did a great job. Each set of clothing had a child’s name on it. The kids were excited with their new clothes, some tried their outfits and jackets while I took photos of them, some grabbed their gifts to guard them. I could feel the joy in each face. Some were timid but some approached me to talk. I found that almost all of the kids here were educated. They each replied politely when I asked about their studying, relations and lives. We took lots of photos with them. All the staff, who the kids called “mum”, are very nice.
All of them would like to say thank you to HSCV and Loving House Project on behalf of their children.”
