Loving House Project # 5 was given to Mr. and Mrs. Phan Thi Be Sau and their two mentally disabled children. The girl is 14 and is able to walk and talk; the boy is 13 with no use of his arms and legs. The father works at a fish processing plant (making $3/day) and farms the family’s small property. The mother stays home and takes care of both kids and helps with the farming. Their only request was to have a concrete floor in the house so that their son could use a wheelchair. Both LHP Representatives in Vietnam at the time, felt this family needed a new home so that the kids could be cared for in a better situation.
November 24, 2008 - Today, in the afternoon, we returned to the two families that need immediate help. Mr. Cu, the Red Cross engineer, and Mr. Hai, our local contractor, went with us so we could work out an action plan and budget. Mrs. Phan Thi Be Sau’s house can be gutted and remodeled. She has a good roof so we will keep that, the walls will be done in brick and stucco. With the addition of a concrete floor, front porch, kitchen and bathroom, she will have a very nice house to take care of her children.
December 10, 2008 - The remodelling of Mr. and Mrs. Thi Be Sau’s house is going really fast. The walls are up and the vents are installed. The family helps the construction workers all the time. Their house should be finished before the end of the month.
December 2008 - Throughout the project, Mr. Ho Dong (LHP Representative), visited the job site on several occasions, supervising construction and making modifications to the home’s design.
December 29, 2008 -A small ceremony was held to give the Be Sau’s their Loving House. Dr. Lien (Director of Red Cross in Tien Giang province) and Mr. Ho Dong (LHP) were present when the People’s Commitee Representative gave the family the deed to their new home.
