Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai - 40 years old, mentally ill. Her son Nguyen Van Tien, 16 years old, works on a farm and they live on $2.66/day USD. Their hut is very far from any road, they have no running water or electricity. LHP will try to build a smaller, simpler house for them because it would be impossible to deliver material to that site.

11/17/09 - Loving House Project No. 9 was started a few days ago and the walls are already going up. Ms. Hai’s house will be smaller then the normal houses we build because of its remote location. The materials are all delivered by hand, sand and bricks are put into cement bags and carried down a small path for the last 300 yards to the building site. Ms. Hai, her son and her aunt are doing most of this work.

11/26/09 - Today we visited Mrs. Hai’s house and were amazed to see that the construction is almost finished. The house already has a roof and the walls are getting painted. Because it is still raining a lot, Mrs. Hai has moved in and is enjoying her new home, even before it is completely finished. There’s still work to be done but we could see how happy her and her son are.

12/3/09 - Today Mrs. Hai and her son received their Loving House. It couldn’t have been a happier day for all of us. For the first time in her life, Mrs. Hai has electricity and an indoor bathroom. Her house is very neat and now she has a big cistern to collect rain water, safe for drinking. She never stopped smiling!
